DeMariontay Hall Scores Season-High 20 Points as Men’s Hoops Falls at Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – DeMariontay Hall scored a season-high 20 points as Coppin State's men's basketball team fell at Howard, 90-70, on Monday night at Burr Gymnasium.  The Eagles fell to 7-23 overall and 5-8 in the MEAC while the Bison improved to 20-10 on the year and 10-3 in league play.

A senior from Atlanta, Ga., Hall made 9-of-17 shots from the floor and 2-of-4 from the line to lead the Eagles in scoring.  Hall also grabbed a team-high five rebounds to go with a block and two steals.  Jamari Piercy (15) and Favour Aire (11) also finished in double figures while combining to shoot 12-of-16 from the field.

Nelson Lamizana returned to action for Coppin and finished with nine points.

Five Howard players finished in double figures, including Cam Gillus who posted a triple double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists to go with four steals.  The Bison outshot Coppin, 54.4% to 51.8% while draining 11 3-pointers and scoring 23 points off 17 CSU turnovers.

Howard never trailed, opening the game on a 9-0 run before Lamizana put Coppin on the board with an old-fashioned three-point play at the 15:56 mark. The Bison built their lead back into double figures by as many as 44-23 and went into halftime with a 46-29 lead with Hassan Perkins beating the buzzer with a layup for the Eagles.

Coppin got no closer than 15 points in the second half and faced an 87-58 deficit when Gillus hit a three with 3:39 remaining to give himself a triple double. The Eagles closed the game on a 12-3 run with Piercy accounting for seven of those points.

CSU closes the season at crosstown rival Morgan State at approximately 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 5 at Hill Field House.
