Men’s Hoops' Winning Streak Snapped in Tough Home Loss to Norfolk State

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's basketball battled to the end but was edged by Norfolk State, 75-69, on Saturday night at PEC Arena.  The Eagles' four-game winning streak ended, and they stand at 7-22 overall with a 5-7 mark in the MEAC.  NSU improved to 15-14 on the year and 8-4 in league play.

Prior to the game, Coppin State honored its seniors: Hassan Perkins, DeMariontay Hall, Torrin Andrews, Chris Morgan and Taj Thweatt.

Khali Horton led three CSU players in double figures with 16 points and was followed by Camaren Sparrow with a season-high 15 points, and DeMariontay Hall with 12 points.  Horton and Sparrow both grabbed a team-high six rebounds to match Tyler Koenig while Sparrow also blocked three shots. Sparrow hit 9-of-11 shots from the line while Hall made 5-of-6 from the field in just 14 minutes of action due to foul trouble.

The teams traded leads for much of the first half before Norfolk got out to the first extended run of the game and closed the half on an 8-0 run to lead 42-29 at the half.  Coppin battled back in the second half, pulling to within 72-69 with 1:13 left following a tip-in by Horton on a missed three by Perkins.

Norfolk State hit a pair of free throws at the other end, extending its advantage to five with 39 seconds left and the Eagles missed a three on the ensuing possession, allowing the guests to escape with the win.
