Sam Sessoms Named MEAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Sam Sessoms has been named the MEAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.  This is the eighth time this season that Sessoms has received the conference Player of the Week award.
 
A fifth-year senior from Philadelphia, Pa., Sessoms averaged 27.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game this past week, while going a combined 17-for-32 (53%) from the floor.
 
On Saturday, he poured in a season-high 37 points against Howard on a career-high 16-for-25 shooting – setting the program's NCAA-era record for most field goals made in a single game – while grabbing seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. In Monday's win over Norfolk State, he had 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals – going a career-best 15-for-19 from the free throw line.
 
For the season, Sessoms ranks eighth nationally with 21.9 points per game while averaging 4.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.1 steals.  Sessoms is the only player in the Nation averaging at least 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals.  He is also shooting an impressive 51.4% from the floor and is the shortest player ranked in the top 100 nationally in field goal percentage.
