Coco Figueroa has been named the MEAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday evening. This is the first weekly award of Figueroa's career.
A freshman from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Figueroa averaged 2.25 digs per set as the Eagles defeated Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend to remain undefeated in conference play. Figueroa made her first career start at libero in a five-set comeback win against the Hornets and came away with 11 digs and a pair of assists. She added seven digs two days later in a sweep of the Hawks.
For the season, Figueroa ranks fourth on the Eagles with 1.79 digs per set and third with 16 service aces. Figueroa has recorded double-digit digs five this this season.
Coppin (18-3, 8-0 MEAC) will start a four-match homestand on Friday, October 27 when it entertains South Carolina State at 6:00 pm. On Sunday, the Eagles welcome N.C. Central in a 1 pm start.
