ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Coppin State's volleyball team got back to its winning ways with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) sweep at South Carolina State on Friday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 17-10 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the MEAC.
TaKenya Stafford led all players with 12 kills on .360 hitting, finishing a dig shy of a double-double, along with an ace. A redshirt senior from Los Angeles, Calif., Stafford now has 999 digs in her career.
Cherisse Atilano added eight kills, eight digs and four aces while
Ivanna Luna swung .500 with seven kills.
Also, contributing on offense were
McKenzie Parks with three kills,
Ahzhi Coleman and
Andrea Cintron with three apiece and three others added one. Coleman had a pair of solo blocks while Parks and
Ayanna Pharoah combined for another.
Cintron,
Azul Pilahg and
Andrea Serrano split time at setter with Pilahg leading the way with 19 assists, followed by Serrano with ten. The trio quarterbacked the attack to a .284 hitting percentage while
Coco Figueroa had a match-high 17 digs, helping hold the Bulldogs to a .056 hitting percentage.
With 17 digs, Figueroa passed Andrea McGant on Coppin's all-time digs list and now has 1,103 in her career.
CSU returns to action on Sunday, November 2 when it heads to Durham, N.C., to play NC Central at 1 pm on ESPN+.
