ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The duo of
Liam Murtaugh and
Kwaku Agyeman won all three of their doubles matches as the Coppin State men's tennis team had an impressive showing at the Navy Invitational this weekend at the USNA Varsity Courts and BSC Tennis Complex. CSU's weekend in Navy was its final competition of the Fall season.
Murtaugh, who transferred in from NC Central, and Agyeman, a freshman from Middletown, N.Y., opened their draw with Harford Community College's Martin Puetate/Paulo Reis, and defeated the Owls in the tiebreaker, 8-6. The pair also bested Morgan State's Tezas Singh/Kondwani Patterson, 12-10, and Matthew McNair/Zach Quattro from Navy, 11-9.
Vansh Kapoor and
Harsh Kheterpal, both of whom are natives of India, dropped a pair of doubles matches in the tiebreak, but picked up a win over Drexel after the Dragons withdrew.
The Eagles had four individuals go a combined 8-3 in singles play with all four winning a pair of matches.
Kapoor, Kheterpal and Agyeman all went 2-1 in their respective groups while Murtaugh won both of his matches.
Kapoor rebounded from a loss to Drexel's William Burridge before dominating Harford's Lucas Fox, 6-3, 6-2 and Aaron Gu of Navy, 6-1, 6-2.
Kheterpal defeated Hampton's Jeremiah Williams, 6-1, 6-1 and HCC's Unai Llerena Perez, 6-1, 6-3 before withdrawing against Navy's Matthew McNair.
Agyeman blanked both Destin Marshall of Morgan State and HCC's Josh Mabonga, while withdrawing against Navy's Eric Liu.
Murtaugh earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Morgan State's Ameer Muhammad before winning via withdraw against HCC's Aaron Gerald.
