UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Making her season debut,
Latifa Ali clocked the best times in the MEAC this season in both the 60m and 200m dash while
Shenelle Tomlinson won the 600m Dash at the Penn State National Open at Ashenfelter Track this weekend.
On Friday, Ali opened the 60m dash preliminaries with a win in her heat (7.55) before advancing to the final with a 7.49 in the semis. Ali took fifth in the final in 7.48 which is the top time in the MEAC.
In the same 60m dash,
Halutie Hor ran a personal-record 7.63 which is the third-fastest time in school-history while
Gifty Oku clocked a 7.79.
Ali took second overall in the 200m dash on Saturday in a time of 24.06, leading all NCAA competitors.
Kimani Alphonse also clocked a 24.92 in the event while Hor finished in 25.16.
Getting some speedwork for her 800m Run and some strength for the 400m, Tomlinson was entered in the 600m Dash and did not disappoint, dominating the event in 1:33.81 to best her closest rival by over two seconds.
Jahmei Wyatt also received a bracketing workout with the 1,000m Run where she finished in 3:03.99. Her time was the fourth-fastest in school history in the event.
A trio of Eagles were entered in the 400m dash with
Destinee McCloud leading the way in a personal-record 57.83.
Kaelyn Woodrum finished in 1:00.26 and was followed closely by freshman
Brianna Benton in 1:00.58. Woodrum also ran a 9.62 in the 60m hurdles, just behind
Erin Palmer in 9.61.
Coppin returns to the track for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational, hosted by Boston University on February 3-4.
