BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Coppin State's
Latifa Ali clocked a personal-record 52.78 in the 400m dash Quarterfinals, finishing 16
th overall in the event at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday night at Indiana University's Haugh Track & Field Complex.
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali's time in the 400m dash is the second-fastest time in school-history, just behind
Diana Pitts' 18-year-old school-record of 52.65. Ali missed out on qualifying for the National Championships by just .38.
Ali also ran the second leg of the 4x400m Relay that took 14
th of 24 schools in 3:38.73. The Eagles' relay, made up of
Kimani Alphonse, Ali,
Shenelle Tomlinson and
Cathryn Lane, were edged by Vanderbilt for the final qualifying spot in 3:38.09.
