NORFOLK, Va. – Latifa Ali,
Kimani Alphonse and
Destinee Mcleod all won heats of their events to automatically advance to the finals during Day Two of the MEAC Track & Field Championships at Dick Price Stadium on Friday.
Ali clocked the fastest time of the 400m dash in 53.44, the third-fastest in CSU history, earning the top qualifying time in the event. A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali was one of four Eagles to qualify for the finals in the event as Alphonse also won her heat in 54.75, along with time qualifiers
Shenelle Tomlinson (56.50) and
Salomay Agyei (56.73).
The day before, Ali won her heat of the 200m dash as well, clocking a 24.88 to automatically qualify while
Halutie Hor was the top time qualifier in 24.85.
Cathryn Lane and Mcleod also ran in the event, finishing in 25.94 and 26.30, respectively.
Mcleod automatically qualified in the 400m hurdles as she won her heat in 1:06.06, just ahead of
Kaelyn Woodrum, who advanced to the final in 1:07.01.
Hor also qualified for the finals in the 100m dash with a preliminary time of 11.61.
Kamillah Monroque snuck into the final of the 800m Run, finishing in 2:18.95 while
Erin Palmer took 13
th in the 100m hurdles (15.86).
Woodrum and
Saidai Stuteley also earned points for the Eagles on the day with Woodrum taking sixth in the heptathlon (3,776) while Stuteley placed fourth in the 3,000m Steeplechase in 12:30.70.
Woodrum's best events were the 100m hurdles (15.61) where she earned 763 points and the 200m dash where she received 794 points with a time of 26.04. She closed the event with a 2:39.33 in the 800m Run, receiving 581 points.
