PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Coppin State's
Latifa Ali broke her own school-record in the 100m dash and helped the 4x400m Relay also qualify for Saturday's final at the historic Penn Relays, held at Franklin Field on Friday afternoon.
A native of Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked a 11.45 in the 100m dash which was good enough for the seventh fastest time in the heats. Ali will compete in the finals of the event on Saturday, April 30 at 2:24 pm.
The 4x400m Relay of
Kimani Alphonse, Ali,
Salomay Agyei and
Shenelle Tomlinson also qualified for finals, clocking the second-fastest time in CSU history in 3:38.54 to finish fifth in the heats. Saturday's final will run at 3:29 pm.
Ali and Alphonse also made up half of the 4x200m Relay that took third overall in 1:36.57, also good enough for the second-fastest time in school history. Joining the duo on the relay were Tomlinson, and
Halutie Hor who also ran a 12.01 in the 100m dash.
Coppin also ran the Sprint Medley Relay, made up of
Cathryn Lane,
Destinee Mcleod, Hor and
Kamillah Monroque, and the quarter finished second overall in 4:07.04.
Aside from the 100m dash and 4x400m Relay, Coppin will also run a 4x800m Relay at 5:02 pm on Saturday. Penciled into the relay are
Claudina Constantine, Monroque, Agyei and
Jahmei Wyatt.
