Box Score BALTIMORE, MD- Despite rain showers and heavy winds, women's tennis notched a pair of wins in singles play in a loss to Loyola Maryland 5-2 for their closing game of the season on Thursday, April 21 for an overall record of 1-14.
Iva Jankovic beat Olivia Tracey in number one singles to mark her six singles victories for the season and is now on a three match win streak in singles. Jankovic had a rough start at the first set as she trailed 3-1 before she lost the fifth game in duce. With a score of 4-1, she made an enormous five game comeback to grab a 6-4 win in the first set. She started the second set trailing Tracey 3-0, but it wasn't until long before she won six games in a row to gain victory in the second set 6-3 to win the match in two sets.
Kristina Georgieva conquered all adversity for a three set win at second singles against Lauren Manwiller. In the first set, Georgieva took took an early 4-1 lead with a win in duce for the fifth game. She ended up winning the set 6-2. The score reversed in the second with Manwiller winning at 6-2. Georgieva gained control in the third set where she had a 3-0 advantage as she closed the third game off with an ace. Manwiller made a run to even out at 3-3. Georgieva won game and maintained a one game lead through the middle of the set before pulling away in the last two games for a 7-5 victory.
Megan Etienne matched up against Abby Decker at number five singles where she won a total of four games for a two set loss.
Christy Turner totalled three games in fourth singles versus Jessica Bodewes.
Mackenzie Jones grabbed a pair of wins in sixth singles while Lucia Placidi won a game in number three singles.
In doubles play, Jankovic and Etienne won a pair of games for a 6-2 loss in first doubles against Rico and Tracey.
Georgieva and Placidi matched up against Manwiller and Bodewes in second doubles, while Turner and Jones played in third doubles against Decker and Wurtz.
Up Next: The Eagles head to Cary, North Carolina for the MEAC Tournament where they will face North Carolina Central in round one. First serve will begin on Wednesday, April 27.
