NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Marcos Herrand has been named the MEAC Baseball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, it was announced by the league office on Monday morning.
A freshman pitcher from Brandon, Fla., Herrand tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout in Coppin's 7-0 victory at Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday. Herrand needed just 76 pitchers and struck out three Hawks while retiring the final 11 batters he faced.
Herrand is 2-0 on the season with a 3.97 earned run average while striking out 15 batters in 22.2 innings of work. The 5-foot-11 righthander is holding batters to just a .241 average and leads the Eagles with a WHIP of 1.15.
The Eagles (15-22) currently hold the tiebreaker to sit atop the MEAC with a 11-9 record in league play. Next weekend, Coppin will travel to Delaware State for a four-game series on April 22-24 in a battle for first place. Friday's game is set for 3 pm with a 12 pm doubleheader on Saturday and 12 pm single game on Sunday.
All four games will be played at Bob Reed Field on the campus of Wesley College in Dover, Del.
