COLUMBIA, S.C. – Just missing out on breaking her own school-record, Coppin State's
Latifa Ali finished second in the 100m dash in a photo finish to lead the women's track & field team to an impressive showing at the Weems Baskin invitational this weekend.
A junior from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked a 11.58 in the 100m dash, just .01 off her own school-record set last season. Ali was edged by Coastal Carolina's Kayla Sweeney by three-thousandths of a second for first while
Halutie Hor took sixth in the event in an impressive 11.79, which is tied for the fourth-fastest in school-history with Olympian
Hafsatu Kamara.
Ali and Hor made up half of the Eagles' 4x400m Relay which took fourth in 46.31 to close out the weekend. Joining the Ghanaian pair on the second and fourth legs of the second-fastest relay in program history were
Kimani Alphonse and
Cathryn Lane.
Hor also led CSU in the 200m dash in 24.80 with
Erin Palmer behind in 26.26. Palmer paced Coppin the 100m hurdles in 15.29, followed by
Olivia Wright in 16.70.
Kaelyn Woodrum and
Destinee Mcleod took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles, clocking times of 1:04.14 and 1:04.29.
A trio of Eagles scored in the 800m Run as well, led by
Kamillah Monroque in sixth (2:17.57) and followed by
Jahmei Wyatt in seventh (2:18.05) and
Shenelle Tomlinson in eighth (2:18.99).
In the 400m dash,
Salomay Agyei clocked a 57.12 with Lane coming in at 58.15 and
Angel Davis at 1:05.09.
Saidai Stuteley continues to improve in the distance events as she finished the 1,500m in 5:33.69.
The Eagles return to the track on April 1-2 for the Towson Invitational.
