COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Latifa Ali and
Kimani Alphonse took second overall in the 400m and 800m Run, respectively, to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team in its outdoor season opener at the Maryland Invitational on a windy Saturday afternoon.
Ali earned the silver in the 400m dash in a time of 54.28, just ahead of third place finisher and teammate
Cathryn Lane in 57.40. Alphonse was the top Eagles finisher in the 800m Run in 2:18.83 with
Shenelle Tomlinson taking third in 2:19.31 and
Salomay Agyei fourth in 2:21.34.
Kamillah Monroque and
Kaelyn Woodrum also medaled in the 1,500m Run and 400m hurdles, in times of 4:47.96 and 1:05.95. Monroque led a group of four Eagles in the 1,500m with
Jahmei Wyatt clocking a 5:05.45, followed by
Claudina Constantine (5:09.71) and
Saidai Stuteley (5:15.08). In the 400m hurdles, Woodrum was followed closely by
Destinee Mcleod in 1:07.71, good for fifth overall.
Stuteley also finished seventh in the 3,000m Run in 11:42.79, and
Halutie Hor, in her CSU debut, took seventh in the 400m dash in 1:00.67.
Erin Palmer doubled up in the 100m hurdles and 200m dash and the 4x400m Relay of Wyatt, Monroque, Constantine and Mcleod finished fourth in 3:54.89.
The Eagles return to the track on March 25-26 for the Weems Baskin Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
