BOSTON, Mass. – Coppin State's
Sam Sessoms has been named to the Watch List for the 2022-23 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award, which was announced on Tuesday. The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.

Sessoms is the first Eagles player since Anthony Tarke (2021) to be a candidate for the award.

Through six games, Sessoms is averaging 22.5 points, 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals while shooting 50.0% from the floor and 37.5% from deep. Sessoms leads the Nation in field goals made while ranking second in total points and fourth in assists. His 1,842 career points are 11
th nationally among active players and he ranks third among players in points who also have at least 350 assists.

A senior from Philadelphia, Pa., Sessoms was on the Lou Henson Award Preseason and Midseason Watch List as a sophomore at Binghamton during the 2019-20 season. Sessoms earned Second Team All-America East for the Bearcats that season after averaging a league-high 19.4 points while ranking second with 4.8 assists. The year prior, Sessoms was the AE Rookie of the Year and was named to the CollegeInsider.com Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team.

Sessoms played the last two seasons at Penn State where he averaged 10.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 55 games. Last season, Sessoms put up 11.6 points per game while leading the Nittany Lions with a 42 percent shooting percentage from 3-point range.
