NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Sam Sessoms has been named the MEAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the second-straight week that Sessoms earned the conference's weekly award.
A senior from Philadelphia, Pa., Sessoms averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists while shooting 53.3% from the floor as the Eagles split a pair of road games at the Herd Run Hoops Jam MTE.
Sessoms, who earned the Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week yesterday, recorded a double-double 24 points with ten assists and five rebounds in an overtime victory against Tennessee Tech. He scored ten points in the overtime period while hitting the game-tying 3-pointer just prior to converting on the go-ahead three-point play. Sessoms added a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds along with three assists and two steals at Marshall two nights later.
Through six games, Sessoms is averaging 22.5 points, 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals while shooting 50.0% from the floor and 37.5% from deep. Sessoms leads the Nation in field goals made while ranking second in total points and fourth in assists. His 1,842 career points are 11
th nationally among active players and he ranks third among players in points who also have at least 350 assists.
Coppin (3-3) returns to action on Tuesday, November 22 at 7 pm when it travels to Towson for a 7 pm tipoff on NBC Sports Washington. The Eagles will follow up with a trip to University of Maryland on Friday, November 25 at 4 pm.
