Sam Sessoms Named MEAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Sam Sessoms has been named the MEAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced the league office on Monday afternoon. 
 
A senior from Philadelphia, Pa., Sessoms averaged a league-high 23.0 points while adding 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals while leading the Eagles to a pair of wins last week. Sessoms shot 33-of-68 (48.5%) from the floor, 12-of-30 (40.0%) from deep and 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the line in the first four games of the season.
 
Sessoms made his CSU debut in the season opener at Charlotte on November 7 and racked up 24 points, three rebounds, three assists on 10-of-15 shooting in just 28 minutes of action. The following night at Georgetown, Sessoms put up a double-double 16 points with ten assists along with three rebounds and four steals as the Eagles took the Hoyas into overtime. His ten assists were the most by an Eagles player since Taariq Cephas dished out 12 assists at NC Central on January 24, 2015.
 
In last Friday's win over Mount St. Mary's, Sessoms scored a season-high 28 points while making 7-of-9 from the line along with five rebounds and five assists.  Sessoms followed up with 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with five 3-pointers four assists, four rebounds and three steals in a victory over Navy.
 
Sessom's 92 points currently leads the Nation and he also ranks seventh in total assists and ninth in total steals.
 
The Eagles (2-2) are back in action on Thursday, November 17 when they travel to Tennessee Tech for an 8:30 pm tipoff on ESPN+ as part of the Herd Run Hoops Jam MTE. Two nights later, Coppin will travel to Marshall in a 7 pm start on ESPN+.
