NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Ashley Roman, for the fifth time this season, has been named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the 13
th time in her career that Roman has received the Defensive Player of the Week award.
A senior from Isabela, Puerto Rico, Roman averaged 5.13 digs per set to lead the Eagles to a pair of conference victories last week and stay atop the MEAC standings. Roman recorded 15 digs in a three-game sweep at South Carolina before putting up 26 digs and six assists in a five-set victory at NC Central.
With her total against NC Central, Roman now has ten matches with at least 20 digs this season and 40 in her career.
For the season, Roman is averaging a league-high 4.89 digs per set to rank 27
th nationally while her 469 total digs are the seventh-most in the NCAA this season. Roman is quickly approaching her CSU single season record for digs of 512 which she set last season.
