Sprinters Impressive for Women’s Track & Field at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Shenelle Tomlinson and Jahmei Wyatt turned in top ten finishes and made up half of the 4x400m Relay that took fourth overall to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina on Friday-Saturday.
 
Tomlinson finished eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 55.58, which is the fourth-fastest in CSU history.  Wyatt's time of 2:16.05 in the 800m Run was good for ninth overall and was just ahead of Kamillah Monroque's time of 2:16.97. Salomay Agyei also turned in a 58.42 in the 400m dash.
 
Kimani Alphonse, the reigning MEAC Track Athlete of the Week, doubled up in the 60m dash and 200m dash and finished in times of 7.83 and 24.93, respectively. Cathryn Lane followed shortly after in the 60m dash (8.03).
 
Alphonse led off the 4x400m Relay and was followed by Tomlinson, Agyei and Wyatt which completed the event in a MEAC-leading 3:44.43.  This time is the second-fastest in school-history, missing the record by just 14-hundredths of a second.
 
Claudina Constantine and Saidai Stuteley both competed in the Mile and finished in 5:36.07 and 6:03.50, respectively. Constantine and Monroque led the 4x400 'B' Relay to a solid time of 4:01.75 while being joined by Kaelyn Woodrum and Angel Davis.
 
Erin Palmer led a trio of Eagles in the 60m hurdles and finished fifth in 9.05, followed by Woodrum (9.26) and Olivia Wright (10.21). Woodrum also leaped 16-5.75" in the long jump while Wright traveled 35-3.25" in the triple jump.
 
Coppin returns to the track on February 5 for the East Coast Challenge, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
