Track and Field Prepares to Soar at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coppin State Track and Field team travels to Columbia, South Carolina for the Carolina Challenge on January 21-22 at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.  
 
What You Need to Know: 

  • Time: Friday – 10:00 am | Saturday – 12:00 pm 

  • Teams Competing include Coppin State University, Auburn, North Carolina A&T, Georgia Tech, Eastern Carolina, Charleston Southern University, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville University, Oklahoma State University, Western Carolina University, University of Miami, Troy University, University of North Carolina Greensborough,  South Carolina State University, University of North Florida, Wingate University, Queens University of Charlotte, Claflin University, Benedict College, Brewton- Parker College, Columbia College, Emmanual College, Erskine College, Allen University, Johnson C. Smith University, University of Mount Olive, South Wesleyan University, Allen University. Last Time Out: 

  • Kimani Alphonse won the 400m Dash at the HBCU Showcase and was awarded as MEAC Track Athlete of the Week, with a personal record of 56.60.   

  • Joseph Manu won the Men's 60m Dash with a time of 6.73.   

  • Jeff Hammond took gold in the long jump with a leap of 24' 1."  

  • Coppin Women's 4x400 'A' Relay team of Alphonse, Salomay AgyeiClaudina Constantine, and Kamillah Monroque took second place with a time of 3:51.15.   

  • In the Men's 4x400, the 'A' Relay team of Manu, Hammond, Randy Serville, and Amadou Ba placed second with a time of 3:20.26.  

  • Shenelle Tomlinson took second in the 800m Run (2:23.97), Monroque in the Mile (5:30.29) and Kaelyn Woodrum in the long jump (17' 1.5").  

  • Serville and Ba earned the bronze in their events.  Serville clocked a 50.07 in the 400m dash, and Ba completed the mile run in 4:33.45.  

  • Olivia Wright placed third in the triple jump (35' 5.75). 

Up Next: The Eagles will soar to Virginia Beach on February 5 for the East Coast Invitational.
