Volleyball Welcomes GW for Home Opener on Wednesday Night

- Coppin State welcomes George Washington University to the PEC Arena at 5 pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.  The match against the Colonials is the home opener for the Eagles.

LAST TIME OUT                                            
- Coppin went 2-1 at Penn's Sheraton University City Volleyball Invitational last weekend with four-set wins over Canisius and Bucknell before falling to the host Quakers in four sets.
- Miajavon Coleman and Andrea Tsvetanova were named to the All-Tournament Team and later named MEAC Co-Player of the Week and MEAC Setter of the Week, respectively. 
- Coleman averaged 4.00 kills and 2.58 digs per set while hitting .198 with a pair of double-doubles. Opening the Tournament against Canisius on Friday, Coleman recorded a double-double 14 kills and 12 digs to go with three blocks.  Coleman followed up with a 19 kill, nine dig performance in a win over Bucknell before tallying 15 kills and ten digs at Penn.
- Coleman currently leads the MEAC with 4.05 kills per set and double-doubles (5) while ranking sixth with 3.27 digs per set.  Over the weekend, she passed Brittany Arvin for third on Coppin's all-time kills list and now has 1,101 in her career. Coleman now ranks eighth in MEAC history with 1,214.5 points.
- Tsvetanova put up 7.83 assists, 3.42 digs and 0.50 blocks per set with three double-doubles. Splitting time at setter in the opener against Canisius, Tsvetanova tallied 15 assists and 15 digs before recording 37 assists and 12 assists in a win over Bucknell on Saturday.  Tsvetanova closed out the Tournament with a season-high 42 assists to go with 14 digs, five blocks and three kills against Penn.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS                                      
- Junior Miajavon Coleman is cementing herself as one of the top players in CSU history as she ranks among the school's all-time leaders in several offensive categories. Coleman sits 3rd in CSU history with 1,101 career kills and 1,214.5 points. Her 3.55 kills per set for her career is currently a school-record.
- Jordan Celestine ranks fourth in school-history with 190 career blocks.  Last weekend, Celestine matched a career-high with seven blocks against Bucknell for upping that just hours later with eight blocks at Penn.
- Ashley Roman already sits fifth in school-history with 934 career digs while her 4.74 digs per set are a school-record.  Over the weekend, she recorded her 19th and 20th match with at least 20 dig, establishing a new school-record.
- In his fifth season at the helm of the Eagles program, head coach Tim Walsh is the winningest coach in school-history with 43 victories.  This included the team's first MEAC North Division Title and winning season during the Spring 2020 season.

ON THE OPPONENT
- George Washington enters the match with an 0-5 record with losses to American, Georgetown, Howard, Bellarmine and Tennessee State. 
- Salem Yohannes leads the team with 53 kills, followed by Liv Womble (29) while five others have at least ten kills.  Lauren LaBeck is the team's primary setter, recording 7.00 assists per set while Bella Bowman has put up 4.88 digs per set at libero. Melody Williams has 15 total blocks to pace the Colonials who are hitting .134 as team and their opponents are hitting .262.
