COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Coppin State's
Christy Turner and
Iva Jankovic won a pair of singles matches through the first two days of the Bedford Cup, held at the Junior Tennis Champions Center. Jankovic also paired with
Megan Etienne in doubles play and will take part in the Consolation Doubles Final on Sunday.
Turner bested Loyola's Taylor Kuncl, 7-5, 6-1 before taking out Nadeen Shrebati of Towson, 6-1, 6-1 on Friday. Turner dropped her lone singles match on Saturday to Howard's Hana El Sherif, 6-2, 6-2.
After dropping a tough three-set match to open the Tournament on Friday, Jankovic was awarded the match over her opponent from George Mason before defeating Towson's Sissi Axelsson, 6-2, 6-1.
Etienne dropped both of her singles matches in heartbreaking fashion before pairing with Jankovic in doubles competition. In her opening singles match, Etienne rebounded to win the second set before falling in a tiebreaker. She fell in a singles tiebreaker on Saturday but got the win with Jankovic, 6-2 over Loyola's Julia Thompson and Addison Kemerer.
In her Coppin debut,
Kristina Georgieva dropped her lone singles match on Friday, 6-1, 6-4 before pairing with Turner in doubles play.
Mackenzie Jones fell in a pair of singles matches but managed to pick up games in each set.
