GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coppin State's
Latifa Ali broke the school-record in the 200m dash to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the Aggie Invitational on Saturday afternoon at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track.
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked a 23.46 in the 200m dash to place sixth overall. Ali's time broke
Melissa Caddle-Hope's eight-year-old record by nearly three-tenths of a second. The school-record holder in the 100m dash, Ali turned in a 11.67 in the event and helped the 4x100m Relay to a second-place finish in 46.71.
Ali was joined on the relay by
Kimani Alphonse,
Jaysha Carter and
Shenelle Tomlinson. Tomlinson and Alphonse recorded personal-best times in the 400m dash as Tomlinson took fifth overall in 54.31 which is the third-fastest in school-history. Alphonse was just behind in 55.16.
Tatiana Ogundeko led a trio of Eagles in the 800m Run, taking eighth in 2:13.90, followed by
Kamillah Monroque (2:19.30) and
Saidai Stuteley (2:38.97). Stuteley also competed in the 1,500m Run and finished in 5:23.35.
Elsewhere on the track,
Angel Davis doubled up in the 100m dash (12.98) and 200m dash (26.50) while
Jaysha Carter clocked a 14.89 in the 100m hurdles.
Alanna Newby tossed the shot put (39-8.75) and the discus (121-7).
Earlier in the week, several athletes competed at the Delaware State Sting Meet and results became available on Friday evening. Stuteley led the way, winning both the 800m (2:33.48) and 1,500m (5:33.33) while Carter took second in the 100m hurdles (14.80).
Davis and Carter led off the 4x400m Relay that took second in 4:07.75 as they were followed by Monroque and Ogundeko. Monroque also took fourth in the 400m dash (59.48) while Davis doubled in the 100m (13.32) and 200m dash (27.98)
The Eagles will return to Greensboro for the Aggie Classic on April 24.
