COLUMBIA, S.C. – Latifa Ali broke a school-record in the 100m dash and helped Coppin State's women's track & field team to school-records in both relays as the Eagles opened their outdoor season at the Weems Baskin invitational this weekend at Cregger Track.
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked a 11.57 in the 100m dash to finish fourth overall and breaking
Melissa Caddle-Hope's eight-year old record of 11.72.
Ali also anchored the 4x100m relay to open the day to a fourth-place finish in 46.00, breaking another record that has stood since 2013. To close out the day, Ali also helped the 4x400m relay to bronze in a time of 3:36.90. This mark bested the old school-record of 3:41.60 by nearly five full seconds. Joining Ali on both relays were
Kimani Alphonse,
Cathryn Lane and
Shenelle Tomlinson.

Ali also competed in the long jump on Friday, finishing fifth with a leap of 18' 5.25."
Tomlinson, Lane and Alphonse all doubled up in the 400m dash with Tomlinson leading the trio on 54.76 to finish seventh overall. Alphonse clocked a 55.77 and Lane finished in 56.72.
Tatiana Ogundeko had an impressive showing in the middle-distance events, taking first in the 800m Run in 2:14.46 while taking third in the 1,500m in 4:36.90.
Kamillah Monroque and
Saidai Stuteley also doubled up in those events with Monroque coming in with times of 2:20.82 and 5:07.35, respectively. Making her collegiate debut, Stuteley finished in 2:40.00 and 5:51.71.
Also, on the track,
Angel Davis doubled up in the 100m (13.24) and 200m dash (26.96) while
Jaysha Carter finished the 100m hurdles in 14.56.
The Eagles return to the track on April 2-3 for the Towson Invitational at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
