Latifa Ali Sets Women’s Track Records in 60m and 200m Dash at East Coast Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Latifa Ali won the 200m dash and shattered school-records in both the 60m and 200m dash to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the East Coast Invitational on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali won the 200m dash in 24.01, breaking Melissa Caddle-Hope's six-year-old record of 24.18.  Ali also finished fourth in the 60m dash in 7.36, besting Caddle-Hope whose mark came in 2013, once again.
 
Shenelle Tomlinson (5th) and Cathryn Lane (6th) also scored in the 200m dash in times of 25.10 and 25.57, respectively. The duo also finished fourth and sixth in the 400m dash as Tomlinson clocked a 56.18, followed by Lane in 58.23.
 
Kamillah Monroque (800m Run) and Alanna Newby (Shot Put) finished second in their respectively events with Monroque covering her event in 2:17.33. Newby tossed the shot put 42' 10.25."
 
In the 60m hurdles, Jaysha Carter finished seventh in 9.34.
 
The Eagles return to the track on Friday, February 12 at the Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational, held at the same Virginia Beach Sports Center.
