Coppin Men Hoops take on the Colonials Wednesday Night

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's basketball team travel to the Nation's Capital tomorrow, December 8 to play George Washington at 6:30 in the Charles E. Smith Center.

Opening Tip
The Eagles will face the Colonials for a fourth time. GW leads the all-time series 3-1 after defeating the Eagles 85-69 on December 5, 2020. The Eagles won 59-53 in 2008 when the two squads met in Hawaii. The very first meeting took place in 1985.

Last Time Out
The Eagles fell to Cornell 92-77 last Friday night inside the Newman Arena. Coppin State got 25 points, four rebounds and three assists from Jesse Zarzuela and 23 more with 12 rebounds from Tyree Corbett. Mike Hood (10 points) was also in double figures, while NendahTarke (eight points, 10 rebounds, four steals) narrowly missed a double-double. Coppin State shot 39 percent from the floor, made 10 3-pointers on 29 percent shooting.
 
Preseason Poll
Redshirt freshman Nendah Tarke and sophomore Kyle Cardaci were named to the Preseason
All-MEAC Teams. Tarke received first Team accolades while Cardaci earned second Team honors. The Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Poll.
 
Coppin Contributors
Tarke earned third Team All-MEAC honors and was the 2020-21 MEAC Rookie of the Year last season. Over the final six games, Tarke averaged 16.5 points along with 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
 
Cardaci was the top 3-point shooter in the MEAC a year ago, making 54 3-pointers while averaging 9.3 points. He made 40.3% from deep and increased that percentage to 44.9% in MEAC play.
 
Eagle Returners
Returning from last season are Nendah Tarke, the 2020-21 MEAC Rookie of the Year and a third Team All-Conference selection, as well as the league's top three-point shooter in Kyle Cardaci. Isaiah Gross is also back after appearing in 14 games last season following an injury plagued 2019-20 season. Reggie James missed all last season with an injury but played in 25 games for CSU during the 2019-20 season. Justin Steers last played in a game during the 2018-19 season where he averaged 6.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and had 25 blocks.
 
New to the Nest
Nine new faces join the Coppin State program with four NCAA Division I transfers (Sita Conteh, Tyree Corbett, Mike Hood & Nathaniel Stokes), four JUCO transfers (Remy Lemovou, Alex Rojas, Daniel Titus & Jesse Zarzuela) and true freshman Greg Spurlock.
 
Scouting George Washington
The Colonials fell to Charlotte 86-79 on December 4th. James Bishop had a season-high 10 3-pointers.
 
GW has relied heavily on its starting lineup this season, with most of the production coming from the quartet of Joe Bamisile, Brendan Adams, Ricky Lindo Jr. and James Bishop. The Colonials are 301st out of 358 teams in the NCAA in bench minutes, with reserves only playing 24.8% of the team's minutes (D-I avg: 31%).
 
In addition, GW ranks 279th nationally, and 10th in the A-10, in minutes continuity at 33.6% (D-I avg: 48.8%). The metric, per KenPom, accounts for the percentage of a team's minutes played by the same player from year to year.
