Coppin State Men’s Hoops travel to UNCG Monday, Hosts Loyola Maryland Wednesday

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's basketball team take on UNCG today in North Carolina, before hosting Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, November 17 inside the PEC Arena.
Both games will be live streamed.

Opening Tip
This will be the third meeting between the Eagles and Spartans with the initial game taking place on December 12, 2018 with UNCG winning 77-54. The last time these two teams met was in 2020 and the Eagles evened the series winning 86-80.
 
The Coppin versus Loyola match-up begin in 2001 where the Eagles won 76-68. Wednesday's meeting will be the seventh game between the two teams. The series is all tied at 3-3, where Loyola won the last game on November 28, 2012, 67-51.

Jesse Zarzuela (14.5), Tyree Corbett (11.5), and Nendah Tarke (10.0) lead the Eagles in scoring.
Nendah Tarke scored 20 points in last year's win over UNCG.

Coppin State University Men's Basketball team falls to No. 24/23 UConn Saturday afternoon inside Gampel Pavilion.

Alex Rojas and Tyree Corbett lead the eagles with nine points each.  Rojas also led the team in rebounds with five as well as a team high in three-point field goal makes, hitting three of six from beyond the arc.  Nendah Tarke also contributes eight points, four rebounds, and a team high of two steals.  Jesse Zarzuela led all Coppin players in assists, with three along with six points.  

Preseason Poll
Redshirt freshman Nendah Tarke and sophomore Kyle Cardaci were named to the Preseason
All-MEAC Teams. Tarke received first Team accolades while Cardaci earned seconnd Team honors. The Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the Preeseason Poll.
 
Coppin Contributors
Tarke earned third Team All-MEAC honors and was the 2020-21 MEAC Rookie of the Year last season. Over the final six games, Tarke averaged 16.5 points along with 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
 
Cardaci was the top 3-point shooter in the MEAC a year ago, making 54 3-pointers while averaging 9.3 points. He made 40.3% from deep and increased that percentage to 44.9% in MEAC play.
 
Eagle Returners
Returning from last season are Nendah Tarke, the 2020-21 MEAC Rookie of the Year and a third Team All-Conference selection, as well as the league's top three-point shooter in Kyle Cardaci. Isaiah Gross is also back after appearing in 14 games last season following an injury plagued 2019-20 season. Reggie James missed all of last season with an injury but played in 25 games for CSU during the 2019-20 season. Justin Steers last played in a game during the 2018-19 season where he averaged 6.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and had 25 blocks.

New to the Nest
Nine new faces join the Coppin State program with four NCAA Division I transfers (Sita Conteh, Tyree Corbett, Mike Hood & Nathaniel Stokes), four JUCO transfers (Remy Lemovou, Alex Rojas, Daniel Titus & Jesse Zarzuela) and true freshman Greg Spurlock.
 
Scouting UNCG
Since the start of the 2015-16 season, UNCG is 75-21 in home games (77.8 winning percentage). A win would give UNCG its first 3-0 start for the first time in its Division I era as a program. The last time UNCG started a season 3-0 was at the start of the 1982-83 season. UNCG has held the lead for a combined 6 minutes, 40 seconds in the second half and overtime through its first two games.
 
Ten UNCG players marked the scoring column in the 70-69 overtime win over Northern Kentucky.
De'Monte Buckingham has scored the eventual game-winning baskets in each of UNCG's first two games. Thompson had a career-best 11 rebounds in the win over NKU. Mohammed Abdulsalam's 13 points against NKU were two shy of his career-high

Scouting Loyola Maryland
The Greyhounds fell to Lipscomb on November 14, 70-65. Cam Spencer had his second-straight game with 20-plus points, finishing with a game-high 23.
 
Loyola returns nine players to its roster after reaching the Patriot League Championship Game in 2021. Four starters from that game return this year, Jaylin Andrews is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 11.6 points per game a year ago to go with 4.9 rebounds. Golden Dike is the Greyhounds' leading rebounder back on the roster he averaged 6.2 as a sophomore. Cam Spencer saw limited action at the end of the season due to an early injury, but he was key in the Greyhounds' Patriot League Championships run and finished averaging 10.2 points per game.
