Tomlinson Leads Women’s Track in Debut at VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. – Shenelle Tomlinson won the 400m dash and led the 4x400m Relay to victory as Coppin State's women's track & field team opened its season at the VMI Team Challenge at Cormack Field House on Saturday afternoon.
 
Making her CSU debut, Tomlinson blew out her heat of the 400m dash in a time of 56.65, besting the second-place finisher by 2.5 seconds.  Kimani Alphonse won her own heat in the event, clocking a 57.36 which earned her the silver, while Cathryn Lane took fifth in 59.15.
 
In the 800m Run, Kamillah Monroque took third overall in 2:21.71 while Alanna Newby finished fifth in the shot put (41' 10.75").
 
Tomlinson clocked the fastest leg of the 4x400m Relay which won by nearly nine full seconds in 3:51.96.  Alphonse led off the Relay with a leg of 57.6, followed by Lane (58.1), Tomlinson (56.3) and Monroque (59.6). 
 
Coppin returns to the track on Saturday, February 6 at the East Coast Invitational held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
