NORFOLK, Va. – For the third-straight week and fifth time this season, Coppin State's
Anthony Tarke has been named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. Additionally,
Nendah Tarke received the conference's Rookie of the Week award for the third time.
A redshirt senior from Gaithersburg, Md.,
Anthony Tarke averaged 19 points, 14 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in pair of games at Morgan State last week.
In Coppin's win over the Bears on Sunday afternoon, Anthony put up 21 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, and was also credited with six assists, five steals and three blocks. Tarke also made 9-of-11 shots from the free throw line. On Saturday, Anthony added 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds along with five assists and a pair of steals.
For the season,
Anthony Tarke is averaging 16.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.6 blocks. He currently leads the MEAC in total points, rebounding, double doubles, made free throws and attempts, made field goals and attempts, steals and total blocks. Tarke currently ranks third Nationally in steals.
Nendah Tarke put up 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game last week which included an 11-point, four rebound, two assist effort in the Eagles' victory on Sunday.
For the season, Nendah, a freshman from Gaithersburg, Md., is averaging 7.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.6 steals while making 44.7% of his field goals.
Coppin and the Tarke Brothers return to action on January 23-24 when they host Norfolk State in back-to-back 1 pm tipoffs at PEC Arena. The Eagles and Spartans are currently tied for first in the MEAC Northern Division with identical 3-1 records in conference play. Both teams swept Delaware State and split games with Morgan State.
