Women’s Tennis Drops Season Opening Matches at Maryland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Coppin State's women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in its season opener at the University of Maryland on Saturday afternoon.  The Eagles fell to the Terrapins, 4-0, before dropping a 7-0 decision to Southern Utah.
 
CSU opened the day against the Terrapins and were defeated, 6-0 in all three doubles matches. 
 
In singles play, Brittanie Cahua won three games in the first set of the No. 2 position.  The Terrapins were able to seal the victory with victories in the first, third and fifth positions over Shariah Dunwell, Tinashe Gwaze and Mackenzie Jones, respectively.  Ajla Hrnic and Megan Etienne each won games and their second sets went unfinshed before Maryland clinched the win.
 
Later in the day against Southern Utah, Dunwell and Gwaze won a pair of games at No. 1 doubles but the duos of Cahua/Hrnjic and Jones/Etienne both fell, 6-0.
 
At No. 3 singles, Gwaze took a game in the first set, but was edged, 6-4 in the second set.  Cahua won a pair of games at No. 2 singles but the rest of the Eagles managed just one game each in the remaining singles matches.
 
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 28 at George Washington starting at 1 pm.
