Individual Victories & School-Records Help Women’s Track Finish Fourth at Terrapin Invitational

LANDOVER, Md. – Jasmine Henery (200m), Kimani Alphonse (400m) and Tre'J Johnson (long jump) picked up individual victories while Tatiana Ogundeko broke her own school-record in the Mile to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team to a fourth place finish at Terrapin Invitation on Saturday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.  The Eagles scored 64 points, finishing ahead of squads from George Washington, Loyola and Howard while ranking behind the host Terrapins, Johns Hopkins and Delaware State.
 
The Eagles went 1-2 in the 200m dash with Henery taking the crown in a personal-record 25.36.  Cathryn Lane finished just behind in 26.13 to earn the silver.
 
Alphonse had a great CSU track debut, easily taking the 400m dash in 57.93, beating out the next closest competitor y nearly two full seconds.  Destinee Mcleod also scoring a pair of points in the event, taking seventh in 1:04.25.
 
For the second-straight week, Johnson came away with the gold in the long jump, leaping 17' 11.50."
 
In the Mile, Ogundeko shaved three-tenths of a second off her own school-record set last year finishing sixth overall in 5:07.35.  Ogundeko ran aggressive from the start, leading after the first 600m. Ogundeko doubled up on the day and ran in the 600m dash where she took sixth in 1:41.49.
 
Also medaling and earning key points for the Eagles was Alanna Newby, who took second in the shot put (42' 3.25") and Claudina Constantine, who took third in the 600m dash (1:38.66).
 
Coppin State returns to the track on January 24-25 at the Rod McCravy Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.
