Women’s Track Finishes Fourth at Season Opening HBCU Battle

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Tre'J Johnson won both horizontal jumps while Tatiana Ogundeko and Destinee Mcleod also took individual events to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the season-opening HBCU Battle on Friday at The Armory.
 
Setting personal records in both events, Johnson leaped 5.74m (18-10) in the long jump and 11.87m (38-11.5) in the triple jump to earn the gold.
 
In her collegiate debut, Mcleod, a Baltimore native, won the 500m dash in a time of 1:22.06.
 
After a highly successful cross country season, Ogundeko opened up her final indoor track season with a 5:19.75 to win the Mile.  Ogundeko wasn't the only Eagles performer to score in the event as Kamillah Monroque and Claudina Constantine finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event in times of 5:26.15 and 5:30.11.
 
Jasmine Henery blew out her heat and finished third overall in the 400m dash in a personal-record time of 58.00.  Also earning a bronze on the day was Alanna Newby in the shot put (39-8.75).
 
Cathryn Lane also earned points in the 400m dash with a seventh-place finish in 59.60 while the 4x400m Relay took fourth in 3:59.67.
 
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 18 at the Maryland Invitational held at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
