ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coppin State's men's tennis team took part in the Joe Hunt Invitational hosted by Navy over the weekend and the Eagles came away with several impressive victories.
On Friday, the duo of
Sergiu Medesan and
Sam Scala-McNeil bested Heikkila/Vergara from St. Bonaventure, 6-3. Coppin's top pair also won a pair of matches on Saturday, with a 6-3 win over George Washington's Barsky/Liu pairing, as well as a 6-1 defeat of Dubuque/Kolls from Christopher Newport University.
Several singles matches were also played over the two-day Invite.
Vasco Belunade won the first set against Andrei Oprisor from Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday but dropped the final two sets. He also took the first set of his match against Youngstown State's Pol Virgili Blanco, 6-2, but once again dropped the next two sets. Scala-McNeil also won a set on Saturday against St. Bonaventure's Andres Vergara before falling in three sets.
