BALTIMORE – The Coppin State University Athletic Department held its annual Eagles ESPY Awards on Monday night and Joseph Amoah of the track & field team and women's basketball's Brooke Fields were named the Department's Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

A junior from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah received the honor for the third-straight year after breaking his own school-records in the 60m dash, 100m dash, 200m dash and 4x100m Relay. After finishing the indoor season ranked 25th in the 200m dash and 50th in the 60m dash, Amoah earned three medals at the MEAC Outdoor Championships with the silver in both the 200m dash and 4x100m Relay, as well as a bronze in the 100m dash. Amoah broke his own school-records in all three of those events at the conference championship, and now ranks fourth nationally in the 200m dash (20.20) and eighth in the 100m dash (10.09). His times in both sprints qualify him for the World Championships in Doha, Qatar this Fall, and should also get him a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

A senior from Owings Mills, Md., Fields was a BOXTOROW Second Team All-American and a First Team All-MEAC selection after leading the Eagles with 17.0 points per game, 51 3-pointer's and 119 assists.  The 5-foot-6 guard was even better against MEAC competition, going for 19.9 points and 4.7 assists per game while making 96-of-118 (81.4%) free throws. Fields scored in double figures in 25 games this season, reaching at least 20 points in 12 of those contests.  She also had 11 games with five or more assists.  Recording her first two double-doubles of her career, Fields scored a season-high 26 points to go with ten rebounds at Delaware State, as well as a 19 point, 11 assists effort against the Hornets on Senior Night.
