Trio of Lady Eagles Earn Top Ten Finishes at USC Indoor Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kristen Deacon, Tatiana Ogundeko and Alanna Newby all earned top ten finishes to lead the Coppin State women's track & field Team at the USC Indoor Open on Saturday afternoon.

Deacon took the silver in the weight throw with a toss of 57' 7.5" and she also earned a ninth place finish in the shot put (40' 4.25").  Deacon now sits third in the MEAC in the weight throw. Also in the throws, Alanna Newby took seventh in the shot put (41' 3.25") and also threw the weight 36' 5.75".

Ogundeko led the Eagles on the track, placing sixth overall in the Mile in 5:07.67, which is the fourth fastest in the MEAC this season. Her mark is a new school-record, besting Diana Pitts' 25-year-old record by nearly three seconds.

On the track, Cathryn Lane led Coppin in the 60m Dash (8.01) and 200m Dash (25.72) with Ivonna Hoskins just behind in the 200m Dash in 25.94.  Hoskins was the first of three Eagles in the 400m Dash in 59.10, followed by Jasmine Henery (59.40) and Janee Quailes (1:01.20).

Randi Bohler also leaped 17' 4.25" in the long jump.

Coppin wraps up the indoor season at the MEAC Championships in Landover on February 21-23.
