  • Dejuan Clayton made 7-of-16 shots and also buried three 3-pointers to finish with 17 points along with three steals.  Clayton also moved into 20th place on CSU's all-time scoring list and now has 1,056 career points.
  • Koby Thomas notched his second-straight double-double with ten points and ten rebounds and he also added a block and a steal.
  • Andrew Robinson added nine points with a three and six free throws and Aaron Robinson chipped in with seven points.
  • UMBC made 48.3% of its field goals, including 51.9% in the second half and 21 of their 29 shots came off assists.  CSU made an impressive 55.9% of its shots in the second half but just 41.7% for the game and only recorded four assists.
How it Happened
  • Coppin got out to an early lead in the opening minutes which featured several fouls.  Koby Thomas was the primary benefactor of those calls as he made three early free throws.
  • UMBC cut CSU's lead to 6-4 but Kamar McKnight hit a pair of shots from the stripe and followed with another layup to give the Eagles its largest lead at 10-4 with 14:57 remaining in the half.
  • The Retrievers took over from there, scoring 12-straight points to get their own six-point advantage before Dejuan Clayton cut the deficit in half with a three.
  • Another 9-2 run by the hosts got their advantage into double figures and the Black & Gold led by as many as 18 before Thomas hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of the period.
  • With a 42-26 lead at the break, UMBC scored five-straight to open the second half and extended its lead to 53-29 with 17:02 left to play.
  • Coppin finally got on track from there, going on a 10-2 run over the next 3:18 before UMBC scored five-straight to stop the momentum.
  • The teams traded buckets for the next couple minutes until back-to-back layups by Aaron Robinson and Clayton sparked a 16-4 run to get Coppin within single digits with 3:26 to go.  McKnight, Aaron Robinson and Andrew Robinson all hit threes during the stretch.
  • A UMBC jumper got the lead back to 74-64 at the 2:29 mark but McKnight hit a jumper in the paint and hit the free throws to get as close as 74-67 with 2:17 remaining.
  • That would be as close as Coppin would get the remainder of the way as the Retrievers scored five-straight points to seal the victory.
Up Next: Coppin closes out the month of December with three more road games, starting with a trip to Miami (Fla.) on Saturday, December 21 in a 2 pm start on ACC Network.
