BALTIMORE – The Coppin State baseball team has been picked to defend its crown and win the MEAC North as announced by
College Baseball Newspaper earlier this month. Additionally, the Eagles had a league-high six players listed as Top Players to Watch.
CSU was picked to win the North and was followed by Norfolk State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State. On the South side, North Carolina A&T was picked first, followed by Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, North Carolina Central and Savannah State.
While Bethune-Cookman's Anthony Maldanado and Corey Joyce of NC Central were named the Preseason Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively, seniors
Nazier McIlwain,
Jahmon Taylor and
Aaron Rea, along with juniors
Corey Treyes and
Justin Banks, as well as sophomore
Derek Lohr received Top Player mention.
The Eagles are scheduled to open the 2019 season with a four-game series at Savannah State on Feb. 15-17 before hosting Albany for three games during Homecoming Weekend on February 23-24.
