STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Tre'J Johnson,
Erykah Jerome, Tatiana Ogundeko and
Alanna Newby all recorded top five finishes to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the Fast Track Season Opener at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
Johnson impressed in the horizontal jumps, taking second overall and first among collegiate athletes in the long jump (17' 11"). She also finished third overall and second among NCAA competitors in the triple jump (37' 3.25").
Jerome and Ogundeko each took third in their respective events as Jerome ran the 400m Dash in 58.30 while Ogundeko covered the Mile in 5:12.11.
Newby was the last top five finisher as she tossed the shot put 41' 9.25".
Several other Eagles were impressive in their individual events on the day. Coppin showcased is depth in the 400m Dash as
Ivonna Hoskins and
Jasmine Henery took sixth and tenth, respectively in 58.93 and 59.86.
Janee Quailes also finished in 1:00.95 in the event.
With Johnson and Newby leading the Navy & Gold in the jumps and shot put, Coppin also got a sixth place finish by
Randi Bohler in the long jump (16' 11.5") and
Kristen Deacon in the shot put (40' 10.25"). Newby also threw the weight 37' 11.5".
Bohler also took seventh overall in the hurdles in 9.30 after clocking a 9.25 in the preliminaries.
In the pole vault,
Aidan Alston finished sixth by clearing 9' 10".
Cathryn Lane took home a pair of top ten finishes in her collegiate debut, finishing 8
th in the 200m Dash (25.49) and 9
th in the 60m Dash (7.92). Lane also ran a leg of the 4x400m Relay that took ninth in 4:02.24 as she was joined by Hoskins, Henery and Jerome.
Making her collegiate debut,
MyAsia Mills completed an impressive double, clocking a 2:51.67 in the 800m Run and a 6:19.05 in the Mile.
The Eagles return to the track in 2019 when they compete at the HBCU Battle at The Armory in New York City on Friday, January 11.
