Men’s Track & Field Placed Sixth at 2017 MEAC Outdoor Championships; Steven Thomas named Most Outstanding Field Athlete

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Coppin State men's track and field team placed sixth overall with 62 points at the 2017 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 6th. The Eagles took gold in the hammer while placing second in the discus, shot put, 100 meters and 800 meters and won bronze in both the 4x100 meter relay and 200 meters events.

Sophomore Steven was named Most Outstanding Field Performer for the second consecutive season with a total of 26 points. Thomas won the hammer throw along with a pair of second-place finishes in the discus and shot put. His 52.31 meters in the hammer was a conference outdoor championship record. The 49.12 meters in the discus was a personal record and the shot put was one meter shy of tying his personal record at 14.48 meters.

Freshman Joseph Amoah individually medaled in both the 100 meters and 200 meters dash events. In the 100 meters he tied his season-best time of 10.24 winning a silver medal. In the 200 meters he was third with a time of 20.82 earning a bronze medal.

Senior Ronaldo Ball ran a personal record time placing second in the 800 meter run finals. Ball clocked in at 1:51.55 and battled from behind with an all-out sprint at the end. Seniors Michael James and Alaric Coker both gathered points for the Eagles with James placing sixth (1:59.27) and Coker was seventh (2:02.13).

The Eagles 4x100 meter relay team of senior Haysean Cowie-Clarke, Joseph Amoah, junior Devin Teagle and junior Keshaun Hodges medaled with a third place finish with a time of 40.86. This was the first ever 4x100 meter relay team to earn a conference medal at the outdoor championships.

Haysean Cowie-Clarke ran a personal best time in the 100 meter dash placing sixth with a time of 10.52 seconds.
