PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Coppin State softball team will open up conference play with a road trip to the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore for a three-game MEAC series starting on Saturday with a double header at 1 p.m. (ET). Coppin State is 2-18 overall on the season after suffering a mid-week non-conference lost to UMBC on Thursday. The Eagles are on a current three game losing streak and last won on March 4
th at home against Lafayette (3-2).

Maryland Eastern Shore enters the weekend with a 6-12 record after a pair of MEAC road defeats to North Carolina Central on Thursday (3-2, 4-3). Offensively, the Hawks are led by Samantha Casarez who is hitting a team-best .380 with 19 hits, 12 RBIs and two home runs. On the mound, Adrienne Guerra (4-5) leads the team tossing 55.1 innings with 62 strikeouts. D'errica Toppin (1-1) has the lowest ERA at 2.17.

Coppin State has faced Maryland Eastern Shore 94 times in the past and trails the all-time series 41-53. Last season, CSU went 2-1 against the Hawks in a three game home series, but lost two neutral site games to start the 2016 season.
