Freshman pitcher/outfielder
Corey Treyes of the Coppin State University baseball team was predicted to be the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Freshman of the Year, announced by D1baseball.com on January 31, 2017.
Â
Treyes is a right handed pitcher/outfielder from West Covina, CA graduating from Norco high School. He earned honors as the 2016 Perfect Game California Region HM, 2016 Norco HS MVP, 2015/2016 All State Nominee, 2015 Big VIII First Team All-League and 2014 Big VIII Second Team All-League.
Â
Seventh year Coppin State head baseball coach,
Sherman Reed comments, "Corey came across very confident in his abilities during the recruiting process. While we recruited him as a right handed pitcher, he starred as a two-way player at Norco High School back in California. Once we saw him swing the bat, it became apparent that he could be a very good left-hand hitting outfielder at the Division-1 Level. Hat's off to Corey for taking advantage of the opportunity this fall and accelerating on both ends. The coaching staff has done a really nice job in managing Corey's abilities in a way that maximizes his talents. Corey has a great opportunity to be an immediate impact player in the MEAC if he continues to work hard and stay focus."
