SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three errors helped the game get away from Coppin State's baseball team as the Eagles fell to Le Moyne, 11-1, on Saturday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field. Coppin now stands at 3-17 overall and 3-7 in the NEC while the Dolphins moved to 5-15 on the year and 5-5 in league play.
Terrell Milliner had two of Coppin's six base hits and also drove in the team's only run of the game.
Angel Garcia, Kenan Harvey, Nelson Grajales and
Marcus Sanders had the others while
Noah Hogan drew a walk.
Jake Cumming was charged with just one earned run despite the Eagles giving up nine runs in the fifth inning. He scattered seven hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings before
Mekenna Wakakuwa finished the fifth.
Jack Joyce gave up two runs in the sixth while striking out a batter.
Milliner put Coppin on top, 1-0 with an RBI single through the right side in the second inning, driving in Grajales who had singled and advanced to third on a single by Sanders.
Cumming fanned two in the second and two in the fourth, holding the Dolphins scoreless before the hosts scored nine in the fifth on just four hits to go with two errors. Le Moyne added two in the sixth on two hits and another error to put the run-rule into effect as Milliner provided the lone baserunner for Coppin in the seventh.
The same two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, March 29, beginning at 11:00 am.
