Emmitsburg, MD - The Coppin State men's tennis program advanced to multiple championship rounds on day two of the Mount St. Mary's Invitational while also picking up several consolation round wins in seventeen different matches played today.
On the doubles side,
Jorge Rodriguez Rey and
Gavin Lewis advanced to the Flight B Championship Round today after defeating Krantz/ Crastes from Bucknell University 6-3. Teammates
Gabriel Franca and
Andres Diaz took down Juan Naranjo and Treston Diaz from Harford Community College in a tie breaker match, winning 7-6. That win advanced them to the championship round of the Round Robin Doubles. In those championship rounds, Rey and Lewis fell 6-1 to the University of Delaware while Diaz and Franca lost to Loyola 6-2.
On the singles court, Rey advanced to the Flight C Championship round after dispatching of La Gloan from Harford CC 6-0, 6-1. His next opponent Dominick Perez of Delaware, would dash Rey's hope of another victory by taking the championship match 6-1, 6-4.
Andre Sturniolo bounced in the consolation round and defeated Loyola's Colin Kanuch 6-3, 6-2 and then came from behind against Loyola's Shortel in the Consolation Finals of Flight D to win in the tie breaker, 1-6, 6-2, 10-6. Sophomore Franca would also pick up a win with a 6-3, 6-3 take down of Schaeffer from Harford CC before falling in the Consolation Championship of the Flight E Singles 6-2, 6-3 to Diaz of Harford.
Gavin Lewis also made it to the Consolation Championship of the Flight C Draw, but fell 6-2, 6-4 to Adrien Crastes from Bucknell.
