STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore
Martin Owusu-Antwi won the men's 200 meters event at the NYC Gotham Cup on Saturday, January 20
th at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Overall Coppin State had seven top-10 finishes and five personal-best performances.
Owusu-Antwi set a new school indoor record in the men's 200 meter dash with a blazing time of 21.33 finishing first at the NYC Gotham Cup this past weekend. He ranks tied for 21
st in the nation while ranking first in the MEAC.
Sophomore
Steven Thomas set a new school indoor record in the men's weight throw measuring at 16.61m (54'6") placing fourth at the NYC Gotham Cup. He currently ranks first in the MEAC in the weight throw event. Thomas also competed in the men's shot put event and placed seventh at 15.00 meters.
Senior
Michael James ran a personal-best time in the men's one mile run with a time of 4:23.76. Senior
Ronaldo Ball placed second in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:30.57. Senior
Haysean Cowie-Clarke ran a time of 6.98 in the men's 60 meter event placing eighth.
Coppin State will head to George Mason and Boston University this weekend for their next competition. On Friday, January 27
th the Eagles travel to Fairfax, VA and then on Saturday they will compete at the Terrier Classic.
