Steven Thomas set personal records in the hammer throw and shot put events on the second day of the 2016 MEAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 6
th.
Steven Thomas medaled in the men's hammer throw finals placing second overall. Thomas set a new personal record with his mark of 47.29 meters on his first attempt. In the men's shot put finals, Thomas also set a personal record placing fifth tossing 15.49 meters. On Friday alone he tallied 12 points for the overall men's team score.
Senior
Shane Green placed eighth in the men's long jump finals marking 7.10 meters in the pit.
Three Eagles advanced to the men's 800 meter finals with solid times in the preliminaries. Junior
Michael James goes into the finals with the top time out of the pack with a time of 1:50.78, while juniors
Mark London (1:51.90) and
Ronaldo Ball (1:52.29) are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.
After eight events scored Coppin State sits in seventh place with 23 team points.
The competition concludes Saturday, with events scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with field events including: men's and women's pole vault, javelin, and triple jump. The women's and men's 4x100m relays will begin the running finals at 1 p.m. Rounding out the evening's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay race at 4:35 p.m.
