DOVER- Coppin State freshman infielder
Jamar Criss tallied four hits, two RBIs and scored two runs in the Eagles road doubleheader against Delaware State University on Saturday, April 16 at Soldier Field in Dover, DE.
The Eagles dropped game one of the doubleheader 14-4 and the final game 5-4 to the Hornets.
Coppin State jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning of the opening game.
Senior outfielder
John Kraft opened things up for the Eagles with a double to center field and later advanced to third on a wild pitch.
In the next at bat, senior infielder
Colin Dower was walked.
Then
Jamar Criss slapped a two run RBI double to right center field, scoring Kraft and Dower and giving Coppin State a 2-0 lead after the top of the third inning.
The Hornets responded with one run in the bottom of the third inning making the score 2-1.
Kraft doubled to center field in the top of the fifth inning, for his second hit and his second double of the game.
Delaware State tied the game at 2-2 scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning,
Jamar Criss led off with a single to center field. He stole second base two at bats later.
Freshman designated hitter Nazier McIlwain pushed an RBI single down the right field line breaking the tie and putting the Eagles up 3-2.

Erik Crossman followed with a single to left field, advancing McIlwain.
In the next at bat, freshman catcher
John O'Dwyer popped an RBI single up the middle, bringing home McIlwain as Coppin State closed the top of the sixth inning with a 4-2 lead.
The Hornets tied the game at 4-4 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Delaware State erupted by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning taking an 11-4 lead.
McIlwain registered his second hit of the game with a single to center field in the top of the eighth inning for the Eagles last hit of the opening game.
The Hornets closed the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 14-4 victory.
Freshman
Krystian Negron tossed 6.0 innings, fanned six Hornet batters and only surrendered two hits.
In the final game of the doubleheader,
Jamar Criss singled up the middle for his third hit of the afternoon and Coppin State's only hit of the opening inning.
In the top of the second inning,
George Dragon led off with single up the middle followed by a double to center field by Nazier McIlwain.
Senior outfielder
Darien Percell put the Eagles on the scoreboard first with an RBI groundout to the shortstop, bringing home Dragon.
In the next at bat,
Erik Crossman hit an RBI single up the middle, scoring McIlwain and giving Coppin State a 2-0 lead to end the second inning.
Colin Dower was walked to lead off the top of the third inning and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Jamar Criss was walked in the following at bat and advanced to second as Dower stole third.
Then
George Dragon blasted a two run RBI single down the right field line, scoring Dower and Criss and putting the Eagles ahead 4-0.
Delaware State took the lead by scoring five runs in the fifth inning.
Jamar Criss racked up his second hit of the game with a single to left field for the Eagles only hit of the fifth inning.
Darien Percell singled up the middle in the top of the sixth inning for Coppin State's seventh hit of the game.
Freshman outfielder Andrew O'Dywer singled for the Eagles final hit of the afternoon as Delaware State held on for the 5-4 win.
Freshman
Aaron Rea went all 6.0 innings for the Eagles while striking out seven batters.
Coppin State will complete its weekend road series against Delaware State with a single game Sunday, April 17 at noon at Soldier Field in Dover, DE
