Biography

2015 (Junior): Named Coppin State’s Male Newcomer of the Year and CSU’s baseball team MVP. Dragon made an immediate impact for the Eagles on the diamond. He led the Eagles with a .295 batting average. Dragon also finished the season as Coppin State’s leader with 12 multi-hit games, 43 hits and a .370 slugging percentage. Dragon opened the season by reaching base in Coppin State’s first 21 games. He also slugged two home runs and was second on the Eagles with 18 runs batted in. He also had five doubles and scored 17 runs. Dragon enjoyed a season-high eight-game hitting streak from March 7-18. Dragon became the sixth Coppin State player to have five hits in a game when he accomplished it during a game against Delaware State on March 22. Dragon was the first Coppin State player to have five hits in a game since Derek Richards did it against Norfolk State on April 11, 2011. The five hits tied a school record held by four other Coppin State players (Harry Williams vs. Alabama State, 3/20/08, Dwight Robinson at Florida A&M, 5/1/10, Chris Kashangaki at Florida A&M, 5/1/10 and Derek Richards at Florida A&M, 5/2/10).

Prior to Coppin State: The native of Ashtabula, Ohio was named to the 2014 first team all-region in the Western New York Athletic Conference (WYNAC) after helping Mercyhust University North East win a school-record 31 wins and the second Region III title in the 16-year history of the program. He had a .315 batting average and drove in 24 runs for the Saints last season. Dragon had 12 multi-hit games, including a four-hit effort in which he drove in four runs against Cuyahoga Community College. Dragon plans to major in business/sports management at Coppin State. He had a decorated high school career in which he was named to the honor roll in all four years. He earned 11 varsity letters in baseball, football and basketball while being named all-county in each sport. Dragon was named the “Warrior of the Year” following his senior year at Edgewood. He was named Ashtabula County Player of the Year in baseball as a junior and Ashtabula County Linebacker of the Year as a senior.

“Bobby is a proven collegiate big time left hand hitter that will boost our offense in 2015,” Reed said. “During the recruiting process it became evident early that his inner passion and competitiveness will assist us greatly in our goal of winning a MEAC Championship. Bobby did a great job of analyzing our program in preparation for his visit and quickly recognized out past short falls on the offensive side of the ball. He'll provide us with much needed help in the middle of our line-up. Bobby is one of the big key additions to the new group coming in.”

Dragon played baseball with the Neal 742 American Legion. He has also volunteered with local charities including YMCA Youth, St. Joseph’s Church and the American Red Cross.
