BALTIMORE- The Coppin State Lady Eagles softball team will continue it's road schedule with a trip to Dover, DE for a weekend series against MEAC opponent Delaware State University.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, April 3 with a noon start.
Coppin State went 0-3 against the Hornets in the 2015 softball season.
The Lady Eagles (2-18, 2-4 MEAC) are coming off a doubleheader loss to UMBC on Tuesday, March 29.
Senior infielder Danielle Smith leads the Lady Eagles with 28 hits and 14 runs so far this season.
She currently has a team best .606 slugging percentage.
Senior outfielder Alanna William leads Coppin State with two home runs and 11 RBIs.
She is second on the team with 19 hits and a .508 slugging percentage.
Freshmen pitchers Megan Narvaez and Melanie Benge, along with senior catcher Shelby Mendoza each have recorded double digits for the Lady Eagles.
Benge leads Coppin State with 50 innings pitched accompanied with 30 strikeouts and is tied with Megan Narvaez with two complete games pitched.
Megan Narvaez has registered two wins and eight strikeouts in 28 innings from the mound.
She also has one home run this season.
Freshman pitcher Dakota Gartell also has eight strikeouts on the season. She is second on the Lady Eagles tossing 41 innings.
Delaware State comes into the weekend series as the top team in the MEAC Northern Division standings.
The Hornets lead the MEAC in team batting percentage (.301) and Nicole Gazzola leads the MEAC with 40 hits.
Coppin State will complete their recent three game road trip with a game against George Washington University on Wednesday, April 6 at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex in Washington, D.C.
