Miranda Homers in Road Victory Over Mount St. Mary’s, 12-9

EMMITSBURG – Coppin State picked up their first road victory of the season with a 12-9, win over Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, March 16th at Straw Family Stadium.

Coppin State (2-13) set season-best marks in runs scored (12), hits (15), RBIs (11), and total bases (20) against the Mount (1-9). Junior infielder Bryant Miranda finished 3-for-4 scoring four runs, with three hits, and had his first home run of the season. George Dragon also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew O'Dwyer had two hits and two RBIs, while Colin Dower had a pair of RBIs and Jamar Criss had two hits.

The Eagles tied the game at 2-2 after the second inning with an Andrew O'Dwyer two-RBI double to center field scoring George Dragon and Bryant Miranda. CSU had three hits in that inning as Miranda singled to right field followed by Dragon's single to left field.

Four hits in the next inning gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead over the Mount. Jamar Criss doubled to left field and Miranda had his second single of the game with a shot to center field.  On the ensuing play, both runners stole a base with Criss crossing home plate and Miranda to second on the MSM defense. Next, George Dragon brought Miranda home on a single to center field as Coppin State extended their lead. The Eagles hot bats continued with four runs in the next inning.

A bases loaded walk by the Mount in the fourth inning sent CSU's Malik White home after he singled to left center field leading off the inning. Erik Crossman was next and singled to left field. Crossman scored for the Eagles on an error by the defense with Dragon reaching base. The big play of the inning came when Colin Dower hit a two-RBI single to second base scoring Dragon and Miranda for unearned runs.

Mount St. Mary's matched the Eagles with four runs in the bottom of the inning but CSU remained ahead with an 8-6 lead through five innings.

The middle of the Eagles lineup led off the sixth inning with Jamar Criss and Bryant Miranda continuing their monster games. Criss singled to right field and then Miranda hit his first home run of the season, over left field springing the Eagles to a 10-6 lead. Mount St. Mary's tacked on one run in the sixth inning and two in the ninth inning while Coppin State added on runs in the seventh and ninth inning cruising to their second victory of the season, 12-9 over the Mount.

Myles Taylor picked up the victory tossing 3.2 innings and striking out three batters. Krystian Negron recorded his second save of the season striking out one batter in one inning pitched. Relief pitchers Devin Sutorius and Jahmon Taylor each pitched two innings and struck out three batter apiece.

Coppin State will hit the road for their 2016 MEAC season opener against Maryland Eastern Shore in a three game weekend series beginning with a double header on Saturday, March 19th at 1:00 p.m.
