WASHINGTON – John Kraft blasted his fourth home run of his career leading the Eagles to a 10-4 victory in game two of a doubleheader against NYIT on Saturday, February 20
th.
Coppin State finished six hits and drew nine walks in game one of the doubleheader against NYIT. Senior outfielder
John Kraft had a great opening day going 2-for-2 with two walks and a pair of hits in the first game. Senior infielder
Colin Dower had one hit and drove in the Eagles lone RBI of the game while sophomore infielder
Bryant Miranda and freshmen infielder
Erik Crossman both had hits and runs scored.
The Eagles scored runs in the 7
th and 8
th innings.
Erik Crossman led the 7
th inning off with a walk and then was brought home on a sacrifice flyout to center field by
Colin Dower. In the 8
th inning
Bryant Miranda singled to left field igniting the Eagles. He stole second base and then advanced to third on a wild pitch by the NYIT defense. The Bears attempt at throwing out Miranda resulted in an error leading to Miranda crossing home plate for an unearned run.
Freshmen pPitcher
Andrew O'Dwyer went four innings striking out two batters and allowing five hits in his first collegiate start. Freshmen pitcher
Juan Casillas went three innings also striking out two Bears and surrendering only one hit followed by pitchers freshmen
Devin Rivera Ozuna and senior
Desean Rabb that ended the game.
NYIT finished with eight hits and two errors. The Bears led 2-0 after the third inning. They went on to take a 5-1 lead after three runs scored in the eighth inning and hung on for a 5-2 victory.
In the second game of the doubleheader Coppin State had eight hits and cruised to a 10-4 win over NYIT.
John Kraft went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and his first homerun of the season.
Coppin State exploded for five runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Freshmen outfielder
Carlos Alviarez led the inning off reaching base on an error by the NYIT defense. He then advanced to third base on a single by junior outfielder
Clinton Arnold. The Eagles scored their first run of the inning on a sacrifice flyout to center field by freshmen catcher

Jamar Criss had a productive at bat during the fifth inning. He singled to left field bringing home a pair of Eagles for a 7-3 CSU lead bringing in Miranda and Kraft.
The Bears scored one run in the sixth inning which was not enough to spark a late rally. Coppin State was eager for a win on opening day after beginning last season with an 0-5 start.
John Kraft hit the fourth homerun of his collegiate career with a blast over the right field fence giving the Eagles an 8-4 lead. Later that inning senior infielder
George Dragon followed with an RBI triple to center field anchoring the Eagles to a 10-4 win.
Freshmen
Devin Sutorius picked up the win pitching four innings. He struck out two batters, walked five, and gave up four hits. Closer freshmen
Krystian Negron went three innings striking out three Bears and walking only two batters.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday against NYIT for a single game at 11:30 a.m. on the campus of Gallaudet University.
